If your mom is anything like my mom, the idea of getting a frilly Bath and Body works basket for Mothers Day probably doesn't have her running to the bathtub. Don't get me wrong it's a thoughtful gesture, but what would you want? Dyed liquid soap in a plastic basket? Doubtful. I’ve put a little more thought into it this year. Maybe because I’m getting older, maybe because I’m considering being a Mom and what I would want from probably my biggest and most challenging living, breathing accomplishments.
If you’re part of my family the chances of you getting something made or cooked for you for a birthday, or Christmas are very high. When I was younger I assume it wasn’t my favorite gesture, but as I grow I find it really is these things that thoroughly warm your heart. Handmade or homemade doesn’t have to mean cheap, or cheesy. A little prep and a lot of love can make the best gift.
So if you guys are doing brunch these are an awesome way to mix it up.
here’s what I’m doing this year…
A few years ago I discovered shrubs. You might have had them mixed up in an overpriced cocktail at the last boujee bar you went to. Delicious, but expensive yet SO cheap and easy to make, go figure. And if you start now you can definitely have them finished in time for Moms day!
This is my go to favorite recipe.
I did a few different combos:
(Great for Bloody Marys)
(Add it to champagne for a twist)
(Mixed this with soda water as a mocktail and it was amazing)
You can mix them with your favorite spirit or champagne, or just plain soda water. Dress up an already tried and true cocktail, and garnish with whatever’s fresh. I used Kumquats from the farmers market, and some lemons and limes I had on hand. Sky’s the limit.
Okay and full disclosure, that’s not all I’m getting my Mom for Mothers Day, although it is a super thoughtful addition. If you are still searching for a gift, shop our Mothers Day sale at 30% off!
Cheers to all the Mamas!
